Third party modules and SQL Azure.

We are running DotNetNuke in Azure using the accelerator and it works nice.

But we are having big problems using different modules, ex, EasyDNNnews, Ultra Media Gallery , DNNArticle , ......

They don't support SQL Azure. Anybody that have solved this?

We have tried scripts that cleans up the installation scripts but have not succeded with these..

What should we do? We are considering hosting DNN somewhere else...

My experience is that solving this type of issues should not take too much time, depending on the "size" of the SQL Scripts. As an example, I fixed 19 non-core modules on 6.0 launch ( in about 10 hours, including the repackaging and documenting tasks.

The best way to do that is to ask the developer to modify the scripts on theirs distribution, in order that you don't have to modify them again every time that a new package version is released.

If you want to do it yourself, you can see the error that is thrown during installation and try to fix the SQL scripts. Another way is to install onpremise and then use a tool like "SQL Azure Migration Wizard" ( or RedGate SQL Compare and SQL Data Compare. In any case, both ways are not trivial and you will need some advanced SQL knowledge, not for non-technical people.

The idea of a "Make your DNN module SQL Azure compatible" needs more promotion. I'll try to promote it.

I wish that the DotNetNuke Store could put some kind of label on the modules that support Azure to make compliant modules easier to find. It would increase awareness among the developers of modules, perhaps also lead to increased sale.....
